No. 6 seed Michigan Tech came up short 4-1 against No. 3 seed Grand Valley State in the GLIAC women's tennis quarterfinals Friday afternoon outdoors at Greater Midland Tennis Center. Nicole Ballach triumphed over Vera Griva 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles for the Huskies, but the Lakers outplayed Tech in three other singles positions as well as doubles to move into the semifinals against No. 2 seed Wayne State on Saturday.

Michigan Tech women’s tennis will make its sixth straight GLIAC Tournament appearance on Friday, April 29 when the No. 6 seed Huskies take on No. 3 seed Grand Valley State in the quarterfinals. Based on the weather conditions, the match will start at either 3 p.m. (outdoor) or 6 p.m. (indoor) in Midland, Michigan.

Late scratches from the singles lineup and strong play by Wayne State doomed Michigan Tech in a 7-0 loss to the Warriors Saturday at WSU Courts in GLIAC play. The Huskies dropped their second match of the weekend as Wayne State swept doubles and did not drop a set in singles to improve to 10-6, 5-0 GLIAC. MTU fell to 1-8, 1-4 GLIAC with four regular season matches to play.

No. 24 Grand Valley State seized the team doubles point and grabbed five singles wins to defeat Michigan Tech 6-1 in women's tennis Sunday morning at Grand Rapids Racquet & Fitness Center. Lauren Opalewski was the lone winner for the Huskies at No. 5 singles as MTU suffered its sixth straight defeat to start the spring season.

The Huskies fell to 0-5, 0-1 GLIAC and continue on the road with No. 49 Grand Valley State University Saturday at 9 a.m.

Nicole Ballach found success in her No. 1 singles debut, but the Huskies fell short to Lewis University 6-1 Friday morning at Five Star Tennis center in non-conference women's tennis. Ballach reached the round of 16 at the ITA individual tournament in the fall and followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Nafeli Zafeiri Friday in the top spot.
