Huskies defeat Purdue Northwest 4-3, stay perfect at home
HOUGHTON, Mich. - Posting a come from behind win, Michigan Tech women's tennis edged Purdue Northwest 4-3 Sunday at Gates Tennis Center in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Huskies improved to 3-0 at home this spring and moved to 3-8 overall, including 3-4 in GLIAC play.
"We started off slow and fell behind 3-0 but pulled it together and really got behind one another for the victory," said head coach Kristin Yep.
The Pride swept doubles and picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to start the match. Marina Fernandez put Tech on the scoreboard with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5 over Nicole Uzcategui. Lauren Opalewski commanded a third set over Salma Raslan for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4 and Dominika Bobik came back from a set down against Hayley Tsuen 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Chiara Heinz provided the clinching point at No. 6, 6-4, 6-3 over Mar Vilanova.
The Huskies close the regular season on Saturday, April 23 at Lake Superior State. Tech also downed Davenport University on Friday.
