HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech track & field squads return to competition after a weekend away from the oval office, traveling to La Crosse, Wisconsin, for the Phil Esten Challenge, hosted by UW La Crosse on Friday and Saturday (April 21st & 22nd).

Field events will start at 2 p.m. on Friday, while running events will begin at 5:30 p.m. The meet will resume on Saturday, with field events starting at 1 p.m. with running events starting at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out

The Huskies showcased two event winners at the Golden Grizzly Invite, hosted by Oakland University on April 8. 

Kyle Samluk ran a massive personal-best in the 3,000m steeplechase to earn his second win this season in the event. Houghton native Clayton Sayen won the men's 800m to mark his second time running 1:51 and change over two laps, just shy of his season's-best time of 1:51.30, turning out a performance of 1:51.32.

Sam Lange ran a new personal-best in the 800m to take second behind teammate Sayen, clocking in at 1:51.97.

Other notable performances were Andrew Lewis' personal-best time of 54.88 in the 400m hurdles and Claire Endres in the 3,000m steeplechase, lowering her personal-best, running a time of 12:21.30.

Tech also displayed depth in the 5,000m, with the second heat of the men's race turning out five sub-15:30 performances led by Donavan Mattson's time of 15:16.48.

Michelle Bollini led the Huskies in the women's 5,000m with her time of 17:46.86, being joined by teammates Hannah Loughlin (18:20.38) and Cedar Gordon (18:24.49).

Additionally, Michigan Tech displayed a men's 4x400m relay of Lewis, Jacob Potter, Ryan Schwiderson and John Paul Norland (3:25.86) to claim second-place.
