Thank you for your interest in Michigan Tech Cross Country and Track and Field.  We are striving to be a nationally competitive team while developing young adults who are prepared to go on to successful careers with a lifelong love of sport. Below you will find information about the sort of student-athletes we are looking to recruit for this purpose, as well as the general process of becoming a Husky. 

What we are looking for in a prospective student-athlete:

1.  Academics

  • Strong GPA

  • Advanced classes

  • Good test scores

  • A focus that matches the academic programs available at Michigan Tech

2.  Athletics

  • Ability to compete at the high end of NCAA Division II level.

  • Potential to develop throughout your collegiate career

  • General athleticism

  • Grit and tenacity

We are primarily interested in having recruiting conversations with athletes that have achieved results around or better than the following marks. Please note that we are not currently recruiting for Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, throwing events, or 100/110m Hurdles:

  • Comfortable in Houghton, MI (All four seasons, lots of snow, small town)

  • Interest level - has submitted an application, scheduled a visit, and maintains contact with coaching staff through the recruiting process

The Recruiting Process at Michigan Tech

  2. Once we receive the completed questionnaire a member of our coaching staff will reach out to you via email

  3. Complete and submit your application to Michigan Tech.  It’s free and fast! https://www.mtu.edu/admissions/apply

  4. If you haven’t already, submit your application to the NCAA Eligibility Center.  This is needed to compete at any NCAA institution:  https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3

  5. Keep the coaching staff informed as your season progresses.

  6. Important dates to keep in mind:

    • First possible recruiting contact: June 15 preceding Junior year of HS

    • Fall early signing period begins: November

    • MTU XC/TF scholarship distribution begins: March

    • XC/TF roster finalized: Early May
