HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech senior Clayton Sayen has been named GLIAC Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Sayen, a native of Houghton, Michigan, placed sixth in the 13th heat of the 1,500m at Raleigh Relays on Thursday. He had the fastest split from 300m-700m (1:01.38) and was the intermediate leader from 700m-1,100m en route to his 3:47.98 season opener.

Sayen bested eight student-athletes from Division I institutions in an effort that was an NCAA Provisional qualifying time.

He is currently one of seven student-athletes to already have ran a provisional qualifier in the event through the first two weeks of the outdoor campaign, with the fourth-fastest time.

Sayen returned to the track on Saturday for the 800m where he ran his second provisional qualifying time, clocking 1:51.30, good for sixth in the 14th heat. His efforts currently ranked him 10th in the nation in the event.

The Huskies next official meet is slated for Apr. 8, heading to Rochester, Michigan, for the Golden Grizzlies Invitational.
