Pahl Finishes 18th in 10,000 Meter Run at NCAA Championships

BRADENTON, Fla. – Matthew Pahl wrapped up an outstanding 2017 season for the Michigan Tech men's track and field team Thursday night at the NCAA Division II National Championships, hosted by the University of Tampa at the IMG Academy.

Pahl, a sophomore from Canton, Michigan, made his first appearance on the national stage against the top competitors in NCAA Division II, placing 18th in the 10,000 Meter Run. Pahl hit the line in a time of 31:48.27 and was one of five Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference runners to compete in the event.

Vincent Kiprop of Missouri Southern won the event with a time of 28:32.07 followed by Tiffin's James Ngandu who checked in second with a time of 29:16.12.

Pahl made his way into the championship field by recording a provisional qualifying time in the 10,000 Meter Run at the Bucknell Bison Invitational on April 15th. His time of 29:53.24 was a new personal best and Michigan Tech school record. He finished 12th in the field that day and in the process outran a number of NCAA Division I and II athletes.

Pahl placed seventh in the finals of the 10,000 Meter Run at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships with a time of 31:34.75. He was ranked 6th regionally in the 10,000 and 18th nationally going into the NCAA Championships.
