Track and Field Athletes Wrap Up Competition at NCAA Championships

BRADENTON, Fla. – Michigan Tech's Jevon Maddox and Kyle Petermann wrapped up competition in the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships today (May 27) at the IMG Academy.

Maddox took part in the 400-meter hurdles event yesterday (May 26), running the race in 54.98. The senior from Austell, Georgia, placed 17th in the tightly contested field.

Petermann battled difficult weather conditions in the discus event. The Clintonville, Wisconsin, native registered a top throw of 48.57 meters, good for 14th in the nation.

Both Maddox and Petermann earned their spots in the NCAA championships following record-setting efforts during the regular season or at last chance meets.

"I thought both Jevon and Kyle performed well for their first experience at the national meet," said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. "It's certainly a great accomplishment for Jevon to complete his Michigan Tech career on the biggest stage, and it was a great learning experience for Kyle – something he can build off of and use to his advantage in the future.

"Our entire team and staff couldn't be happier for both of these guys. They worked hard and without a doubt represented Michigan Tech and the community well."
