POSTGAME COMMENTS - COACH PEARSON | REID STUROS
HOUGHTON, Mich. – Reid Sturos and Max Vallis both scored and Jamie Phillips made 22 saves but the Michigan Tech hockey team fell to Ferris State, 3-2, in front of 3,042 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena tonight (Oct. 31).
"I was pleased with the effort of our team," said head coach Mel Pearson. "I thought we came out and played with a lot more jump and created a lot more opportunities than last night. I thought in the third period we carried the play and had some great chances. Give their goalie credit; he was the star of the game tonight."
Ferris State opened the scoring but a power-play goal from Sturos pulled Tech back to even at the first intermission. After the Huskies gained possession of the puck on the man-advantage and set up in the offensive zone, Sturos dished it up the wall to Mark Auk at the point. Auk quickly sent it across the line to Matt Roy, who settled the pass, moved to his left and shot wide of the goal. The puck bounced right to Sturos on the backdoor for the tap-in equalizer.
Vallis notched his first of the year 4:29 into the middle frame when he drove hard to the net and one-timed home a perfect centering pass from Patrick Anderson. Mason Blacklock also assisted on the play.
Despite constant pressure from the Huskies in the third period, the Bulldogs notched the game-winner with just 1:21 left in the game.
