Owen White Earns Third Team Academic All-American

Michigan Tech men’s basketball guard Owen White was selected to the 2020-21 Academic All-America Third Team in an announcement made by CoSIDA Thursday. White was recognized as one of the nation’s top student-athletes for his combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-America program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. White previously earned Academic All-District on May 10.

White was recognized as one of the nation's top student-athletes for his combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late May.

Michigan Tech Head Men’s Basketball Coach Kevin Luke announced his retirement on Thursday (Apr. 15), following his 27th season as leader of the program. Over his distinguished head coaching career, Luke amassed 471 career victories, making him the winningest coach amongst Tech’s NCAA Division II sports. Coach Luke carefully considered this decision and felt the time was right following the Huskies memorable run to the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Championship game.

Dawson Nordgaard of De Pere, Wisconsin has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Huskies in 2021-22, announced the Michigan Tech men’s basketball coaching staff on Tuesday. Nordgaard plays forward for West De Pere High School, where he has been First Team All-Conference (2021) and Honorable Mention All-Conference (2020).

After falling to Ashland in the GLIAC Championship game Sunday, Michigan Tech men’s basketball is back for more postseason play this week. The Huskies earned an at-large bid as the second seed in the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament. Earning a bye in the opening round, Tech awaits the winner of Southern Indiana (11-4) and Lewis University (14-9), who play Saturday. Truman State (18-2), Wayne State (12-6), and Ashland (14-8) also punched their ticket in the Midwest Region. The Huskies begin their quest for the Division II Elite Eight Sunday at 9:30 p.m. EST.
