Tech XC Tally Eight USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes
NEW ORLEANS – The USTFCCCA released the All-Academic team and individual honors, seeing both Michigan Tech squads earning All-Academic teams, with eight individuals being named All-Academic student-athletes.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
"We take great pride in what our athletes accomplish in the classroom," cross country head coach Kristina Owen said. "It's really hard to balance being a student and an athlete well, and our team consistently rises to that challenge by excelling in both their studies and on the race course. They're learning so many incredible lessons that will serve them well in their careers. They are ready for the future!"
The women's team GPA of 3.77 finished just outside of the top 10, taking 11th overall in Division II.
Hannah Loughlin (Biomedical Engineering), Anabel Needham (Environmental Engineering), Sophia Rhein (Biomedical Engineering) and Hailee Zimpel (Biological Sciences) were the three all-academic student-athletes for the Huskies.
The men's team held a 3.41 GPA this fall, with Callen Carrier (Computer Science), Sam Lange (Mechanical Engineering), Sam Marshall (Mechanical Engineering) and Nick McKenzie (Electrical Engineering) rounding out the men's All-Academic student-athletes.
