Michigan Tech XC Travels to Green Bay for Phoenix Open

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech cross country squads are set for their second meet of the season, traveling south for the Phoenix Open, hosted by the University of Green Bay on Friday afternoon.

The women will take to the Phoenix Alumni Cross Country Course at Shorewood at 3 p.m. for the 6k, with the men to follow at 4 p.m. for the 8k.

Last Time Out

The Huskies opened the season with the Yooper Skirmish on Saturday, September 2, previewing the 2023 GLIAC Cross Country Championship course on the Tech Trails.

The No. 18 nationally-ranked men of Michigan Tech saw its scorers all run under 26:40, with the top-seven finishing under 27:00.

Tucker Ringhand was the low stick on the day for the Huskies with an impressive 25:39.28 on the tactical and hilly course within the Tech Trails to win the race.

Nick McKenzie (25:54.77), Sam Marshall (26:26.85), Ben Conlin (26:31.41) and Stanley Elder (26:37.88) rounded out the Huskies scorers. 

Similar to Ringhand, Hannah Loughlin on the women's side impressed with her time of 22:53.71, showcasing the victory by over 30 seconds.

The Huskies also got a better idea of where the women's scorers stand, seeing three freshmen among the top-seven finishers for Tech.

Sophia Rhein placed second (22:39.30), while Bridget Burns (24:07.23) and Hailee Zimpel (24:16.08) placed fourth and seventh, respectively.

Cedar Gordon ran 23:56.42 to place third, while Ingrid Halverson (24:08.99) and Mady VanWieren (24:10.08) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, to round out the top-seven for Michigan Tech.
