PITTSBURGH, Pa. – For the first time in program history, the Michigan Tech cross country team will compete at a National Championship meet as the Black and Gold women's team and one individual from the men's side will run at the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Michigan Tech women enter Saturday's race on the heels of a third-place finish at the 2018 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships, scoring 116 points and placing three runners inside the Top 25. Junior Emily Byrd (10th), and seniors Liz Bloch (18th) and Emily Vigil (22nd) all earned All-Region plaudits and scored vital points as Tech finished just one point ahead of Walsh in the Regional Championship.

Seven runners will be representing Michigan Tech on the 6k course this Saturday. Byrd, Bloch, and Vigil will headline the group of Huskies, as they enter Saturday with All-Region honors this season. The three also earned All-GLIAC honors at the 2018 GLIAC Championships, with Byrd (8th) receiving First Team recognition and Bloch (12th) and Vigil (15th) earning spots on the Second Team.

Joining the three All-Region recipients will be freshman Gabrielle Feber, who was Second Team All-GLIAC for finishing 16th at the GLIAC Championships and took 27th at the Regional championships to narrowly miss making All-Region. Senior Sophia Farquhar is the fifth runner making the roster for the Huskies, as she took 20th at the GLIAC Championships to finish Second Team All-GLIAC and 39th at the Regional Championships. The final two runners for the Michigan Tech women will be freshman Michelle Bollini and junior Carly Huggins. Bollini placed 25th at the GLIAC Championships and 40th at the Regional Championships, while Huggins finished 26th at the GLIAC Championships and 58th at the Regional Championships.

On the men's side, Braden Reichl punched his ticket to the big race after finishing 11th at the Regional Championships, earning the sophomore All-Region honors. Reichl is the third Michigan Tech runner from the men's program to compete at a National Championship and the first since Sean Pengelly in 2014, and will look to become the first male All-American in Tech history.

Reichl will run the 10k race at 11 a.m., while the women will run at 12:15 p.m. in a 6k race. For more race information, click the links at the top of the page.
