Cross Country Heads to Hillsdale for Midwest Regional Championships

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech men's and women's cross country teams will travel downstate once again to Hillsdale, Michigan for the 2018 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by Hillsdale College.

The Huskies last ran at the 2018 GLIAC Championships on November 3, with the women finishing in second and the men taking third. A combined six Michigan Tech runners earned All-GLIAC honors, with five runners coming from the women's team and one from the men's.

"We've had this day circled since early summer," said head coach Jake Isaacson. "We're excited, healthy, and ready to compete at our highest level this weekend. We're treating this like the finale of the season, and we need to perform well to continue on to the NCAA Championships."

On the women's side, the Huskies enter Saturday's race ranked third in the Midwest region and 20th in the country. The Huskies finished second in the GLIAC Championships, scoring 71 points and seeing Emily Byrd, Liz Bloch, Emily Vigil, Gabrielle Feber, and Sophia Farquhar all earn All-GLIAC honors.

From the men's race, Michigan Tech holds a ranking of seventh in the Midwest region. The Black and Gold took third-place with 112 points. Braden Reichl earned All-GLIAC First Team honors with a sixth-place finish, becoming the highest-placing Husky on the men's side in a GLIAC Championship race.

At last year's championship race in Cedarville, Ohio, the Michigan Tech women took eighth place out of 28 teams with 237 team points, while the men placed ninth out of 28 teams with 294 team points.

The men will run their 10k race first at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women's 6k race at 11:45 a.m. For live results of the race, click here.
