Huskies set to ski at NCAA Championships Thursday and Saturday

MIDWAY, Utah – The Michigan Tech Nordic ski team is in Utah this week for the 2022 NCAA Skiing Championships. The Huskies sent a full squad for the third time in school history and will compete in the classic race Thursday and skate race Saturday at the Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway, Utah.

Representing Michigan Tech out of the Central Region will be Anabel Needham, Henriette Semb, Nea Katajala, Skylar Patten, Colin Freed, and Henry Snider.

Juniors Anabel Needham and Henriette Semb return to the NCAAs for the second straight season. Semb was 13th in the skate and 24th in the classic last season, while Needham placed 19th in the classic and 26th in the skate.

Sophomores Skyler Patten and Henry Snider and freshmen Nea Katajala and Colin Freed will make their debuts at the national championship race.

Last season in New Hampshire, both teams placed eighth as a Nordic program. Every student-athlete that participated for the Huskies scored for the first time in program history.

Thursday's classic race is a 5K for the women at Noon (Eastern) and a 10K for the men at 2 p.m. Saturday's skate is a 20K for the men at 11:30 a.m. and a 15K for the women at 1:30 p.m. A free video stream is available on NCAA.com with the links above.

Participants were selected on a regional basis from two designated regions for Alpine skiing (East and West Regions) and three designated regions for Nordic skiing (Central, East and West Regions). Bids are awarded to regions using a formula determined by the skiing committee. A maximum of 12 student-athletes (three per gender per discipline) may be selected from an institution.
