• No. 13 Michigan Tech hosts a best-of-three WCHA playoff series for the second straight

year this weekend when it plays Alaska at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

• The Huskies are the No. 1 overall seed in the WCHA tournament after claiming a share of the MacNaughton Cup last weekend. Should Tech advance to the WCHA Final Five next weekend, it will play the lowest remaining seed in the semifinals.

• Tonight's game marks the 14th all-time between the Huskies and Nanooks and the fifth meeting of the 2015-16 season. Tech is 4-0-0 vs. Alaska this year but the last two contests - Feb. 26-27 in Houghton - were decided by one goal. The Huskies lead the overall series 10-3-0 and hold a 6-2-0 advantage at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

• Seven Tech players and head coach Mel Pearson were honored yesterday by the league when it announced its annual awards. Senior co-captain Alex Petan took home WCHA Player of the Year Honors, while goaltender Jamie Phillips was named the Outstanding Student-Athlete and Pearson claimed Coach of the Year recognition. Petan was also named to the All-WCHA First Team. Phillips and Matt Roy earns spots on the All-WCHA Second Team, while three Huskies - Malcolm Gould, Tyler Heinonen and Shane Hanna - werre All-WCHA Third Team honorees. Freshman center Jake Lucchini was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team.

• Petan won the WCHA scoring title after finishing the regular season with 29 points on 16 goals and 13 assists. Petan earned the scoring crown just one season after Hancock's Tanner Kero claimed the honor. Prior to Kero's scoring title, the last Husky to accomplish that feat was Shawn Harrison in 1988-89.

• Pearson has led the Huskies to back-to-back 20-win seasons, the first Michigan Tech coach to hit the 20-win mark in back-to-back years since John MacInnes. Pearson enters the weekend with 93 career victories, good for second all-time among Tech head coaches.

• Phillips, who already boasts the program's all-time shutout record with 10 (and counting), sits just three wins away from tying the career wins record at Michigan Tech. Phillips' 55 victories are second all-time to Bruce Horsch, who earned 58 wins from 1974-78.
