BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Brent Baltus, Reid Sturos, Alex Petan and Dylan Steman all scored goals as No. 17 Michigan Tech beat No. 18 Bowling Green 4-1 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association battle tonight (Jan. 30) at BGSU Ice Arena.

The win pushes Tech's WCHA road unbeaten streak to eight (6-0-2) and marks the first time in 2015-16 that a team has gone into BGSU Ice Arena and knocked off the Falcons in a WCHA outing.

"I'm really proud and happy for our players," said head coach Mel Pearson. "They sacrificed their bodies tonight and it was an outstanding, gutsy effort by out guys tonight. To come in here and take three out of four points is a huge statement. We've played so well on the road this year and I can't say enough about the effort and preparation of our team."

Bowling Green buried 45 seconds into the contest, but Baltus answered late in the frame to even the score at 1-1. Alex Gillies started the play when he forced a turnover at center and chipped the puck to Baltus entering the zone. Baltus slowed as he moved through the circle, got Bowling Green netminder Chris Nell to bite on a deke and quickly stuffed the puck into the wide open net.

The Huskies struck twice in a three-minute span in the second period to grab a 3-1 lead after two. Sturos put Tech up 2-1 when he buried a 5-on-3 shorthanded goal at 13:22. After blocking a shot in the defensive zone, Sturos picked up the loose puck and raced through center on a 2-on-1 with Dylan Steman. As they entered the zone, Sturos moved to the middle before putting a rocket wrist shot into the top corner.

Then, at 16:56, Petan threaded a shot from the point through traffic and in to double the advantage.

Jamie Phillips made 17 saves for the Huskies for his 14th win of the season.

Michigan Tech (14-7-5 overall; 11-6-3 WCHA) hits home ice next weekend (Feb. 5-6) to play Lake Superior State in the annual Winter Carnival series. Friday's contest starts at 8:07 p.m. and the Saturday finale is set for 5:07 p.m. Tickets to next weekend's games, along with all home hockey games, can be purchased at the SDC Ticket Office, online at BuyHuskiesTickets.com and over the phone at 906-487-2073.
