POST GAME INTERVIEWS | COACH PEARSON | ALEX PETAN | MARK AUK

HOUGHTON, Mich. - Alex Petan and Mark Auk both scored, and goaltender Jamie Phillips made 30 saves as Michigan Tech skated to a 2-2 tie with No. 19 Minnesota State tonight (Jan. 15) in front of 3,060 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

The tie gives Tech a 3-0-4 record in overtime this year and pulls it to within two points of second-place Bowling Green in the WCHA standings.

"It was a very good college hockey game," said head coach Mel Pearson. "Both teams played well, had multiple scoring chances and it was just a good overall game. We're not totally happy with the result, but they're a good team and we expected a close game. Tomorrow will be more of the same and we have to get back after it."

Minnesota State scored first, but Petan buried to end a great shift at 12:21 of the middle frame, tying the game at 1-1. With the Huskies pushing for the equalizer, Jake Lucchini sent the puck into the left corner for Malcolm Gould. Gould quickly looked up and fed Petan, who was all alone in front of the net to redirect the puck just over the line and in.

The Mavericks notched a late second-period goal to carry a 2-1 lead into the third, but Auk sent a rocket into the top corner 10:43 into the third to bring the Huskies back to even.

As the puck squirted up the slot, Auk snuck in, settled it and fired a wrister off the water bottle over Pawloski's glove to force overtime. Alex Gillies notched the lone assist on the play.

Neither team scored in the extra session.
