HOUGHTON, Mich. – Cliff Watson and Matt Roy scored while goaltender Jamie Phillips posted a 22-save shutout to help No. 20 Michigan Tech upset No. 15 Bowling Green, 2-0, in front of 3,117 at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena tonight (Nov. 13).

The shutout victory gave Phillips eight during his Tech career, making him the program's all-time leader in career shutouts.

"I thought it was a good game tonight and I really liked our start," said head coach Mel Pearson, who has led the Huskies to wins in five of their last six games. "The guys did a good job of being ready to go tonight. I also really liked our finish and ability to close out that game. Bowling Green is a good hockey team and things went in for us. We have to make sure we're ready to play tomorrow because we have a chance to have a really great weekend.."

Michigan Tech came out flying and the early effort paid off when Watson scored his first of the year just 22 seconds into the contest. Alex Petan made a great play to shovel a pass to the point for Watson, who quickly settled the puck and sent a shot towards the net. With Michael Neville serving as a screen at the top of the crease, the puck slipped through bodies and beat Bowling Green goaltender Chris Nell on the glove side.

The game reminded 1-0 until Roy notched a power-play goal 16:44 into the third. The scoring play started when the Huskies flew into the zone. The puck eventually came to Chris Leibinger, who fed Roy at the right point. Roy waited before throwing a shot just inside the post for a 2-0 Tech lead.

Reid Sturos also had an assist for MTU, which 5-0-0 when leading after two periods.

Michigan Tech (6-3-0 overall; 6-3-0 WCHA) and Bowling Green will finish the two-game WCHA series tomorrow (Nov. 14) at 7:07 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the SDC Ticket Office or online at BuyHuskiesTickets.com.
