Hanna Named to WCHA All-Rookie Team; 11 Earn All-Academic
MADISON, Wis. — Michigan Tech's Shane Hanna earned All-WCHA Rookie Team honors as the league released its postseason awards today. The Salmon Arm, B.C., native led all WCHA defensemen in league points.
Hanna compiled four goals and 18 assists while competing in all of the team's 38 games this season. The freshman defensemen recorded all 22 of his points in league play to not only pace the league's defensemen, but also sit atop the WCHA freshmen scoring category.
The 5-11, 190-pound Hanna finished the regular season with a +4 plus/minus rating and seven multi-point games. Half of his 22 points came on the power play, tying him for sixth in the league in power-play points. His 18 assists were tied for third-most in the conference.
Hanna is Tech's second All-WCHA Rookie selection in as many years. Alex Petan earned the honor last season.
In addition to the All-WCHA teams, the league released the WCHA All-Academic Team as well. Eleven Huskies earned spots on the team. They were: Patrick Anderson (So., Bismarck, N.D.), CJ Eick (So., Appleton, Wis.), Blake Hietala (Jr., Houghton, Mich.), Daniel Holmberg (Sr., Nykoping, Sweden), Tanner Kero (Jr., Hancock, Mich.), Alex Petan (So., Delta, B.C.), Jamie Phillips (So., Caledonia, Ont.), Blake Pietila (Jr., Brighton, Mich.), Dennis Rix (Sr., Grande Prairie, Alb.), Daniel Sova (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.), Brad Stebner (Sr., Fort McMurray, Alb.).
To earn recognition as a member of the WCHA All-Academic Team, member team student-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1) have completed one year of residency at present institution, prior to the current academic year; and 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) for the previous two semesters or three quarters.
