Tech Volleyball Clinches Spot in GLIAC Playoffs with Win at Lake State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Lauren Emmert had 11 kills and Stephanie Dietrich hit .588 with 10 kills of her own to help lead the Michigan Tech volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Lake Superior State in a GLIAC conference match today (Nov. 14) at the Bud Cooper Gym.

The win gives Tech a 19-win regular season – its highest win total since 2008 – and guarantees the Huskies a spot in the GLIAC playoffs for the first time since 2009.

"We're happy with the way we played today," said head coach Matt Jennings, who has rebuilt a program that went winless in GLIAC matches the year before his arrival to a playoff-caliber team in four seasons. "I thought our offense was solid and we scored well. We'd still like to clean up a few things in our game, but it's a great accomplishment for this team and we're proud of their effort throughout the season."

The Black and Gold cruised to victories of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-21 while hitting .324 as a team, including a remarkable .619 in the second set on 14 kills in 21 total attempts with one hitting error.

Jacqueline Aird was the top performer for the Huskies defensively, notching 13 digs in the match.

Freshman Mariah Sherman added nine kills to the offensive effort and setter Rachel Pohlod had 32 assists.

Michigan Tech (19-11 overall; 10-8 GLIAC) will play at Ferris State Wednesday (Nov. 18) in the GLIAC conference quarterfinals.
