Volleyball Suffers 3-2 Loss at Northwood

MIDLAND, Mich. – Lauren Emmert had 19 kills and Mariah Sherman added 14 of her own, but the Michigan Tech volleyball team fell in a tight, five-set match at Northwood tonight (Nov. 13).

"Mariah and Lauren carried our offense, but we didn't have enough scoring on the outside attack to win," said head coach Matt Jennings. "Jacqueline Aird and Elle Heinonen were phenomenal on defense, which helped us in those middle sets. Overall, though, we're disappointed with the loss."

Aird led the Huskies with 33 digs to break her own single-season Tech digs record. She currently has 500 on the season.

Northwood started the match by taking set No. 1, 25-23, before MTU rallied to win the second and third sets 25-17 and 25-16, respectively.

The Huskies couldn't close out the match, though, and fell in the fourth set, 25-18, before Northwood clinched the victory with a 15-10 winner in the fifth and final set.

Heinonen had a career-high 24 digs, while Rachel Pohlod added to the defensive efforts with 20 digs of her own.

Michigan Tech (18-11 overall; 9-8 GLIAC) closes out its regular-season schedule tomorrow (Nov. 14) at Lake Superior State.
