Tech Volleyball Upended by Grand Valley State

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Aubrey Ficek notched a game-high 14 kills and Jacqueline Aird had 25 digs, but the Michigan Tech volleyball team fell to Grand Valley State, 3-1, in a GLIAC volleyball match at the SDC Gym today (Oct. 31).

The Lakers won the first two sets by 25-16 and 25-18 scores, respectively, before the Huskies responded with a 25-21 victory in set No. 3 behind clutch kills from Stephanie Dietrich and Lauren Emmert late in the frame.

Grand Valley State rallied in the fourth set, though, closing out the match with a 25-14 win.

Emmert added nine kills to the attack, while setter Rachel Pohlod turned in 35 assists. Defensively, Aird, Pohlod (14), Halie Hart (13) and Elle Heinonen (12) all had double-digit digs in the match.

Michigan Tech (17-8 overall; 8-5 GLIAC) is off until Tuesday (Nov. 3) when it hosts longtime rival Northern Michigan. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET and can be seen live on TV6/Fox UP.
