Volleyball Completes Road Sweep with Victory at ODU

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four different Huskies had double-digit kills and Jacqueline Aird had 31 digs as the Michigan Tech volleyball team knocked off Ohio Dominican, 3-1, in a GLIAC conference match today (Oct. 24) at Alumni Hall.

The win boosts Tech's record to 12-5 away from Houghton, including a 3-2 mark in GLIAC matches.

"Our offense was particularly strong today," said head coach Matt Jennings. "Credit to Rachel Pohlod for spreading the ball around. Jackie was outstanding again and led our backcourt defense on a day where we struggled to block a strong offensive attack from ODU.

"Mariah Sherman and Aubrey Ficek were great on the attack at the pins, while Stephanie Dietrich and Lauren Emmert were unstoppable at times out of the middle."

The Black and Gold stormed to back-to-back set victories to open the contest, winning both frames by identical 25-19 scores. The Huskies hit .270 and .381 as a team in sets one and two, respectively.

Ohio Dominican responded by winning the third set, but Michigan Tech closed out the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth and final stanza.

Emmert (16), Sherman (15), Dietrich (13) and Ficek (12) led the offensive charge for Tech, which notched 65 kills and hit .277 as a team in the match.

Pohlod continued her consistent play and collected 52 assists while adding 10 digs and three aces.

Halie Hart (16) and Elle Heinonen (14) combined for 30 digs to help the Huskies defensive effort.

Michigan Tech (17-6 overall; 8-3 GLIAC) is back in Houghton next weekend to open a three-game home stand. Tech plays Ferris State next Friday (Oct. 30) and Grand Valley Saturday next Saturday (Oct. 31) before a match with Northern Michigan on Nov. 3.
