Tech Volleyball Beat by UW-Parkside at Crossover

AURORA, Ill. – Aubrey Ficek notched 10 kills and Lauren Emmert hit .429 but the Michigan Tech volleyball team was defeated by UW-Parkside, 3-0, in its final match at the 2015 Mizuno Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover at the Great Lakes Center today (Oct. 17).

The Huskies finished the Crossover with a 1-2 record after splitting a pair of matches yesterday against Ohio Valley (3-0 win) and Lewis (3-2 loss).

"I don't think we played well enough to win, but credit Parkside for playing a solid game," said Michigan Tech head coach Matt Jennings. "We had a tough time slowing down their offense.

"Overall we had a decent weekend. Last night's five-setter against Lewis probably took some gas out of us. I'm glad we picked up a win and am happy we proved we can play with the best."

UW-Parkside hit .440 in the opening set en route to a 25-11 win. The Huskies clawed back in the second set to knot the frame at 22-22 after being in a 22-16 hole, but two late kills by Parkside clinched the stanza.

A back-and-forth third set went to Parkside, 25-21, to close out the match.

Rachel Pohlod notched 29 assists in the contest, while Jacqueline Aird led the charge defensively and collected 12 digs.

The Huskies (15-6 overall; 6-3 GLIAC) stay on the road next weekend (Oct. 23-24) for a two-game trip to play Tiffin and Ohio Dominican.
