Volleyball Falls in Tight Match at Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – Mariah Sherman had 11 kills while teammate Aubrey Ficek notched 10 of her own, but the Michigan Tech volleyball team was upended by Findlay, 3-0, tonight (Oct. 2) in GLIAC conference action at Croy Gymnasium.

Despite falling in straight sets, the Huskies were within striking distance in each, losing 25-22, 25-23 and 25-21.

"I thought it was a great match overall, despite the outcome," said head coach Matt Jennings. "We're disappointed with the loss, but I haven't seen our team play with that much passion and heart in a hostile environment in my time at Michigan Tech. I'm very proud of this team."

A strong start to the night helped Tech build a 17-13 edge in set one, but Findlay rebounded and came from behind to win. The Huskies hit .355 as a team in the opening frame.

Set No. 2 was another tightly contested period that saw the Oilers eventually prevail, 25-23, before closing out the match with a 25-21 win in the third and final stanza.

Senior captain Jacqueline Aird collected 11 digs in the match, bringing her within nine of setting the all-time career record at Michigan Tech.

Rachel Pohlod tallied 35 assists in the contest, and Lauren Emmert had seven kills while Stephanie Dietrich hit .556.

Michigan Tech (12-3 overall; 4-2 GLIAC) travels to Hillsdale, Mich., tomorrow for a match with the Chargers at 2 p.m.
