Tech Volleyball Clipped by Ashland 3-0

HOUGHTON, Mich. -- Jacqueline Aird had a game-high 18 digs and teammate Lauren Emmert collected eight kills, but the Michigan Tech volleyball team was clipped by Ashland, 3-0, tonight (Sept. 25) in a GLIAC match at the SDC Gym.

The loss marks the first of the year at home for the Huskies, who opened with a pair of wins last weekend over Lake Superior State and Northwood.

"First of all credit to Ashland; that's a good team," said head coach Matt Jennings. "Our serve receive was not good again tonight and we'll need to clean that up for tomorrow. We need to get our middles back into a groove and get them options in and out of system. I have all the confidence in the world in our team and I think tomorrow will be a good day."

The Huskies started the first set by taking each of the first three points, but Ashland went on a run and built an eventual 10-5 lead. Despite a Tech flurry to close the gap midway through the frame, the Eagles held on for a 25-18 win.

The Black and Gold battled to a 17-16 advantage in the middle set before Ashland rallied and closed out a 25-20 victory by scoring seven of the final nine points.

Ashland took the third and final set 25-23 after holding off a late Michigan Tech charge.

The Huskies (10-2 overall; 2-1 GLIAC) look for a weekend split tomorrow (Sept. 26) when they take on Lake Erie at 3 p.m.
