Huskies Sweep Peacocks to Move to 5-0

FAYETTE, Iowa — Three players each had 10 kills or more as the Michigan Tech volleyball team remained undefeated on the season with a 3-0 victory at Upper Iowa tonight. The Huskies, who still haven't lost a set all season, swept the Peacocks 25-16, 25-21, 25-20.

"It was nice to see us pick up where we left off from last weekend," said Tech coach Matt Jennings. "Again tonight, we came to play and picked up a solid road win against a good team that has excellent outside hitters and great coaching.

"To sweep them twice in two weeks is a great reward for the team's hard work. We're happy with the win, but are focusing on the remaining three ahead of us this weekend."

Tech's middle hitters, Stephanie Dietrich and Lauren Emmert combined for 25 of the team's points. Dietrich played her third match without a hitting error, pounding 10 kills on just 15 attempts for a .667 percentage. Emmert had a match-high 12 kills on 24 attempts.

The first set was tied 12-all before the Huskies went on a run for a 21-14 lead. Kills by Rachel Pohlod and Emmert sealed the win.

Upper Iowa led 17-12 in the second set before Elle Heinonen served off six straight points for an 18-12 advantage. An Emmert kill and a Peacocks attack error ended the set.

Tech controlled set three throughout and polished off the victory with another Emmert kill.

The Huskies hit .233 as a team compared to .098 for UIU. Aubrey Ficek joined Emmert and Dietrich in double figures in kills. She had 10 on 36 attempts.

Jacqueline Aird posted a match-high 20 digs.

Michigan Tech will remain in Fayette for more of the Upper Iowa Invitational. The Huskies' next match is against Minot State tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
