Volleyball Splits First Two Matches
INDIANA, Pa. - The Matt Jennings volleyball era opened with a
3-1 win over Roberts Wesleyan Friday (Aug. 31). The Huskies dropped
their second match of the day to Cedarville 3-2.
“Coming out with a win was important,” said head coach
Matt Jennings. “We came out strong. We had an early lead
against Roberts Wesleyan, but they battled back. I was happy with
how we responded in the second set.”
Tech dropped the opening set to the Redhawks in extra points 26-24
despite finishing with a .135 to .059 advantage in hitting
percentage.
The Huskies reversed the score in set two for a 26-24 win thanks
once again to an offensive attack that hit .226. The offense
continued for Tech as they closed out the match with 25-19 and
25-17 wins.
Jordanna Kero led the Huskies with a double-double. The Hancock,
Mich., native tallied a match-high 13 kills and 10 digs. She also
had two block assists.
Shelby Jones tallied a match-high 13 kills as well, to go along
with her eight digs and two block assists.
Madeline Haben finished with a match-high 41 assists, and Tessa
Mauer chipped in a team-high four aces.
Jennings also praised the play of Kienna Sharp who finished with
eight kills and hit .412.
The Huskies finished with a 50-34 advantage in kills and a 52-47
lead in digs.
Tech jumped out to a 2-0 (25-18, 25-13) lead against Cedarville
before dropping the next three (25-27, 21-25, 13-15).
The Huskies finished with advantages in kills (62-50), attack
percentage (.142/.103), assists (60-49) and digs (71-69).
Shelby Jones led the team with 21 kills. Jordanna Kero recorded
another double-double with 19 kills and 16 digs.
Madeline Haben also tallied a double-double with 45 assists and 14
digs. Jacqueline Aird chipped in 19 digs.
The Huskies will face Indiana (Pa.) and Coker Saturday (Sept.
1).
