Tech Tennis Receives ITA Academic Recognition

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Both Michigan Tech tennis programs were recognized as 2023 ITA All-Academic Teams by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tuesday (July 11).

The Huskies also had 13 players earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. Women included Dominika Bobik (Wroclaw, Poland), Emily Cojocaru (Richmond Hill, Ontario), Marina Fernandez (Reus, Spain), Chiara Heinz (Schwendi, Germany), Neva Manas (Carmel, Indiana), Lauren Opalewski (Oxford, Michigan), and Ewa Podulka (Trzebnica, Poland). On the men's list were Adam Fenjiro (Rabat, Morocco), Vitor Jordao (Recife, Brazil), Ricardo Nunez (Ciodad del Carmen, Mexico), Eli Pinnoo (St. Clair, Michigan), Ambarish Rao (Irvine, California), and Leon Sell (Neuenburg, Germany).

To earn ITA All-Academic Team recognition, institutions must maintain a 3.20 grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). Individuals must hold a grade point average minimum of 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

In 2023, 468 Division II Men's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athletes, and 64 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction. In 2023, 623 Division II Women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 97 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

In May, five Michigan Tech players also earned Academic All-District honors and senior Dominika Bobik became the fifth MTU tennis player in program history to be named College Sports Communicators Academic All-America. Both Michigan Tech tennis teams are coached by Kristin D'Agostini-Yep.
