Huskies defeat Pride 4-3

PARK FOREST, Ill. - Four available players was all the Michigan Tech women's tennis needed to defeat Purdue Northwest 4-3 Saturday afternoon at Park Forest Tennis Club. It was the second win in as many days for the Huskies, who improved to 2-4 this spring. The Huskies used straight set victories at each top-4 singles position to edge out the Pride. Ivona Gorgioski downed Lena Van Burgen at No. 1 6-4, 6-2. Lauren Opalewski followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2. Neva Manas and Marina Fernandez picked up wins in singles and as a doubles duo against PNW.

"I was really proud of how our team competed to get the win today, despite having just four players available," said head coach Kristin Yep. "We worked hard to win points and today's result rewarded our effort."

Michigan Tech (2-4) returns to Houghton after six straight road matches Saturday as the Huskies host Lake Superior State at Gates Tennis Center.
