Tennis Wraps Up Regular Season with Win at LSSU

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 5-4 win over Lake Superior State on Saturday (Oct. 22). The Huskies finished 6-5 on the season and are the No. 7 seed in the upcoming GLIAC Tournament, playing second-seeded Tiffin.

"Getting a win today was a great way to wrap up the regular season," Tech coach Kevin Kalinec said. "Lake State's facility is very unique and a tough place to play in. We weren't ready to play on those courts in doubles, but the team adjusted and came through in singles."

Tech got its five wins on the afternoon in five singles matches. Kwang Suthijindawong (6-1, 6-0) won in the top spot. Paola Quintana (6-2, 7-5) won in the second position. Vicky Quinde (6-2, 7-6, 6-4), Natalia Parra Alvarez (6-3, 6-4), and Allenca Rolim (6-4, 6-1) also won in four through six.

The Huskies and Dragons play Friday, October 28 at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

"Tiffin will be a good matchup for us," added Kalinec. "The match we played against them just last week was closer than the scored indicated after losing a couple three-setters. They have one of the best players in the league and Kwang is looking forward to playing her again."
