Women's Tennis Wraps Up 2014-15 Season at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Michigan Tech women's tennis team had five matches at Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head. The Huskies won one of those and wrapped up their 2014-15 campaign with a 5-12 record.

Tech played all week without the services of GLIAC Player of the Year Kwang Suthijindawong, who was out with injury. Unfortunately, that forced the Huskies to default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles in every match.

The Black and Gold opened the week with a 6-3 victory over Davis & Elkins. Tech earned wins at both Nos. 1 and 2 doubles with sisters Emilia and Erika Tenizbaeva combining for an 8-6 triumph at the top flight. Sandra Cvetanovic, playing her first match at No. 1 singles, earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Natalia Parra-Alvarez (No. 3) and Kat Donovan (No. 5) were also straight set winners. Erika Tenizbaeva accounted for the final point with a third-set win 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 at No. 4).

Florida Tech swept the Huskies in their next match 9-0. Cvetanovic and Emilia Tenizbaeva paired together at No. 1 doubles and had the closest match, an 8-6 decision. The Panthers won all other matches in straight sets.

Wet court conditions prompted Tech and Edinboro to play pro sets at every flight, and the Fighting Scots earned a 6-3 victory. The Huskies' team points came from Cvetanovic and Emilia Tenizbaeva at No. 1 doubles and from Cvetanovic 8-1 at No. 1 singles and Erika Tenizbaeva at No. 4 singles.

In its fourth match, Tech had three singles matches go to third set super tiebreakers vs. NCAA Division I opponent George Mason. Unfortunately, the Huskies only claimed one of those. Cvetanovic posted a 7-5, 2-6, 10-4 triumph at No. 1 singles. Erika Tenizbaeva was just two points away from victory in a 3-6, 6-2, 15-13 score at No. 4. Parra-Alvarez also went to the tiebreaker at No. 3, falling 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.

Michigan Tech wrapped up the week with an 8-1 loss to Indiana (Pa.). Erika Tenizbaeva posted the Huskies' lone victory at the No. 4 singles flight by an 8-6 pro set tally.

Michigan Tech has no more matches on its 2014-15 schedule and has concluded its season.
