Tech Soccer Concludes Regular Season at No. 11 Wildcats

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech soccer team completes the regular season with a chance to win the GLIAC regular season title, facing rival Northern Michigan on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the NMU Soccer Field.

Thursday's game will be aired locally on FOX-UP. TV6 and FOX-UP began broadcasting the Tech versus NMU rivalry during the 2013-14 season and added soccer to its lineup during the 2021 season. Dave Ellis will call the action from the NMU Soccer Field.

About the Game
No. 11 nationally-ranked Northern Michigan sits atop the GLIAC standings (8-1-4) with Michigan Tech (7-1-5) and Grand Valley State (7-1-5) in a tie for second with the conference regular season championship on the line Thursday. Of note, all three teams were in the first regional rankings of the season.
About the Wildcats
Northern Michigan completed the final full weekend of the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Saginaw Valley on Friday (Oct. 27) before shutting out Ferris State in 1-0 fashion on Sunday (Oct. 29).
Hannah Kastamo netted her sixth goal of the season in the win against Ferris State, while Angelina Perrotano scored her second goal of the season in Friday's tie. The Wildcats offensive chances were plentiful, with 41 total shots between the two games and 22 on goal.
Defensively, Goalkeeper Jillian Thompson made five saves, seeing 11 shots through the weekend. Thompson is ranked third nationally with 11 shutouts this season with a save percentage of .789.
The Wildcats have scored 31 goals this season with a conference-leading 10 goals from Molly Pistorius, with Kastamo netting six this season. Stephanie Trujillo has a team-leading four assists on the year.
As a team, Northern Michigan is averaging 8.8 shots on goal per game, which ranks 20th nationally and at the top of the conference.
About the Huskies
Michigan Tech is riding a seven-game unbeaten streak with four wins in the mix to be 8-2-7 overall and 7-1-5 in the GLIAC. Most recently, the Huskies shut out Ferris State on Friday (Oct. 27), with Brooke Green netting the game-winner before a scoreless draw against Saginaw Valley on Sunday (Oct. 29).
Goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde was rewarded for her performance over the weekend with her second GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. She saw eight total shots over the weekend, making four saves over two games with three saves against Ferris State and one save against Saginaw Valley en route to her 16th and 17th career shutouts.
Offensively, the Huskies have scored 22 goals this season, averaging 12.2 shots per game and 1.29 goals per game. Seulgi Lee and defender Cassie Bonifas have both netted a team-leading five goals. Grace Hoeppner has accounted for three assists this season, from one of the nation's best teams at getting corner kicks.
The Huskies rank 21st nationally and first in the league with an average of 6.47 corner kicks per game, which has translated to multiple goals this season.
The Black & Gold have amassed a season-high 10 corner kicks in four games this season, most recently coming in the 0-0 draw against Saginaw Valley.

Michigan Tech has seen multiple goal scorers this season, with five different Huskies netting game-winners as Lee and Bonifas have a team-leading two game-winning goals this year.
