PREVIEW: Michigan Tech Welcomes Minnesota Crookston and No. 9 Bemidji State

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's soccer team preps for their first home weekend of the season, hosting Minnesota Crookston and No. 9 Bemidji State. The contest against Minnesota Crookston will take place on Friday, at 7 p.m. The tilt against Bemidji State is slated for noon on Sunday.

Michigan Tech soccer in partnership with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced a four-year media partnership with Flosports beginning this fall. Flosports became the exclusive platform for the conference and will broadcast over 900 games across 21 sports, including football, basketball, soccer and volleyball at MTU.

About the Golden Eagles

Minnesota Crookston started the fall campaign on Sunday (Aug. 28) with a 2-1 win over Waldorf. Goalkeeper Kathryn Brainerd had two saves in the game, staying in goal for the entirety of the contest for the Golden Eagles. Alyssa Pavlacic and Abby Fettinger both tallied goals for UMC in the victory.

Despite only playing one contest in the first weekend of the season, the Golden Eagles had three exhibition games in the weeks leading up to the fall campaign, resulting in a tie against Iowa Lakes CC (1-1) and losses to Jamestown (2-1) and College of St. Scholastica (2-1).

Minnesota Crookston was tabbed to finish 16th in the NSIC Preseason Soccer Coaches' Poll.

About the Beavers 

Bemidji State started its season with a 3-0 loss against Summit League affiliate South Dakota State last Thursday (Aug. 25)

Fifth-year senior Sara Wendt recorded both of Bemidji State's two shots on goal in the game, while Alyssa Stumbaugh finished with four saves.

The Beavers, ranked No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll in the beginning of August, was tabbed to finish second in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 

Fifth-year defender Megan Dahl was named the NSIC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. She was named NSIC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, helping the Beavers to an undefeated regular season and a trip to the NSIC Tournament Championship last season.

About the Huskies

Michigan Tech started the season last weekend with a split in Minnesota, falling to UMD 2-1 on Thursday evening (Aug. 25) and reigning victorious Saturday (Aug. 27) in a 2-0 win over St. Cloud State.

Senior Neve Badalow was the lone scorer for the Huskies in the contest against Minnesota Duluth. 

Three newcomers tallied their first points for the Black & Gold in the win over St. Cloud State. Taylor Noble earned her first assist on the game-winning goal scored by Haley Ruiter. Shortly after the first goal from the Huskies, Alyvia Sanom and Makenna Sanom checked in for the first time in their career, with Makenna tallying an assist on a goal from Alyiva minutes later.

Senior goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde earned her first shutout of the season, marking the fifth of her career playing for MTU.
