Soccer Rolls to 3-0 Win at Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio — Michigan Tech reeled off its fourth straight GLIAC women's soccer victory with a 3-0 shutout at Tiffin today. A goal by Jacqueline Mielke in the fourth minute set the tone for the Huskies, who improved to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the league.

Tech scored goals in the fourth, 41st and 84th minute of the contest to raise its goal total to 10 in the last four games.

Mielke dribbled around a defender and finished in the left side of the net for her eighth goal of the season.

The score remained 1-0 until the 41st minute, when Kathryn Farkas lobbed a shot over the goalkeeper for her first career goal. Rebecca Stoffel assisted on the marker.

Tiffin (2-7-1, 0-6-0 GLIAC) took 11 shots in the second half, putting eight on goal. Kirsen Hudak turned away all eight to keep the Huskies up 2-0.

Lexi Herrewig finished off scoring in the waning minutes as Mielke fed her a pass on the weak side, and Herrewig finished into the left corner. The tally was Herrewig's ninth of the year.

"Great team effort today," said Tech coach Michelle Jacob. "We played well on both sides of the ball. I especially thought our back line and keeper had really strong days. We kept most of their shots to the outside, and Kirsen made a lot of good saves in pretty windy conditions."

Final shot totals showed a 18-14 advantage for the Dragons including an 11-6 margin in shots on goal.

The shutout victory was Tech's second in a row and fourth of the season.

Michigan Tech will have a day off before playing at Findlay on Sunday (Oct. 11). Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
