Tech Soccer Falls at Walsh 1-0

Tech Soccer Falls at Walsh 1-0

CANTON, Ohio — For the second straight game, Michigan Tech soccer controlled play and had a big advantage in shots on goal. Unfortunately, today's result vs. Walsh was the same as last Friday's (Sept. 18) vs. Ashland—a 1-0 loss.

"It was a lot like last week," said Tech coach Michelle Jacob. "We created a lot of good chances and just didn't finish.

"I'll give the Walsh goalkeeper a lot of credit. She had a very good game for them."

Tech put an incredible seven shots on goal and nine shots total in the opening half and couldn't break through.

One of Jacqueline Mielke's three shots in the game came one-on-one with the WU keeper, who came out and made the save.

Walsh scored the lone goal of the game in the 11th minute as a couple of defensive miscues allowed the Cavaliers to get off a shot. Tech keeper Jenna Phelps got a hand on the ball, but couldn't stop it.

The Huskies posted a 6-2 lead in shots in the second half as the hosts used defensive tactics to hold their one-goal lead.

For the game, Tech created seven corner kick opportunities and had six different players record at least two shots.

Michigan Tech (3-3, 0-2 GLIAC) will be back in action Sunday (Sept. 27) at Ohio Dominican. Game time is noon.
