DULUTH, Minn. — Michigan Tech soccer knocked off host Minnesota Duluth 2-1 in a non-conference match at Malosky Stadium. The Huskies improved to 2-1 on the season by scoring a goal in each half and holding on for the victory.

Tech opened scoring in the 18th minute. Taylor Archibald made a pass that got misplayed by the UMD defense, and Janelle Riedl was there on the weak side to guide it into the net.

The Huskies held a 1-0 lead with a 12-5 advantage in shots at the half.

Jacqueline Mielke added another marker in the 60th minute for a 2-0 advantage. Lexi Herrewig picked up an assist as Mielke wiggled around a defender and scored her second of the season.

UMD pulled back within a goal in the 81st minute after a free kick bounced around and was eventually put in. The Bulldogs did not put another shot on goal in the final nine minutes.

"We got better as the game went on," said Tech coach Michelle Jacob. "We really started playing our game and creating chances. We missed a lot of opportunities that we could have scored on.

"After their goal, we did a nice job to keep our composure and do the right things to get the win."

Michigan Tech fired 14 total shots on goal in the match, and two UMD goalkeepers combined for 12 saves. Kirsen Hudak started in goal for the Huskies and turned away four of the five shots she faced.

Michigan Tech will remain in Duluth to take on Minnesota Crookston in a neutral site matchup on Monday (Sept. 14). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
