Huskies Ink Houghton Standout Zenner to NLI
HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's basketball program and Head Coach Kim Cameron are pleased to announce the addition of Sloane Zenner to the program for the 2017-18 season. Zenner recently signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Huskies as a student-athlete this coming fall.
"Sloane is a great addition for our team," Coach Cameron said. "Being from Houghton and playing for that program, we know we are getting a player who is disciplined and will be ready to work. She will be a mismatch problem for other teams because of her ability to play inside and on the perimeter. We are looking forward to watching her progress into the college level."
Zenner prepped at Houghton High School where she was a multi-sport athlete. The 6'0 guard recorded 1,078 career points and helped lead Houghton to three district championships. She averaged 15.2 points per game, knocked down 56 percent of her shots from the field along with posting six rebounds and 3.8 steals per game this past season.
Zenner was named 1st Team All-Conference in both basketball and volleyball in 2014, 2015, and 2016. Zenner was chosen for a spot on the All U.P. Second Team in 2014 and was picked for the All U.P. First Team following both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns. She was the Channel 10 Athlete of the Year in 2015-16, a Midwest Top 100 Basketball Showcase participant (2016-17), "Detroit Free Press" Top 100 Basketball Player (2016-17), "Detroit Free Press" All-State Class B First Team and Team Captain honoree (2017), and BCAM All-State Class B Honorable Mention (2017) selection.
Zenner not only excelled on the court but also in the classroom during her high school career. She has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2015 and on the Honor Roll each semester. Zenner was named BCAM All-Academic in Basketball this past season.
Zenner joins Cassidy Trotter from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin in this year's recruting class. Trotter signed her NLI with Michigan Tech back in November.
The Huskies closed the 2016-17 season with an overall record of 20-8 and 15-6 in the GLIAC, advancing to the GLIAC Final Four.
