HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech made nine 3-pointers in the opening quarter and 21 for the game in a 96-34 exhibition victory over cross-canal rival Finlandia tonight in women's basketball.

Tech jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back.

Mackenzie Perttu played 24 minutes and knocked down eight triples in a 24-point night. None of the other four Huskies' starters played more than 18 minutes and nine different Huskies scored points.

"We were looking for a little momentum going into break, and I think we got some," said Tech coach Kim Cameron. "Our starters really set the tone tonight, and a lot of our players got valuable minutes. That experience will pay off down the road for us."

Tech shot 52 percent from the field including 53 percent on 21-of-40 3-point shooting. The Black and Gold also held a 44-30 rebounding advantage.

Lindsay Winter (14 points), Abbie Botz (14) and Kerry Gardner (12) joined Perttu in double figures.

Julia Daavettila scored 15 of the Lions 34 points.

Michigan Tech will play again in two weeks with a 1 p.m. tipoff vs. Ohio Dominican on Saturday, Jan. 2.
