No. 8 Huskies Shoot Past Golden Eagles 85-62

ST. PAUL, Minn. — No. 8-ranked Michigan Tech built up a 30-point lead after three quarters and cruised to an 85-62 victory over Minnesota Crookston tonight in game one of the Radisson Hotel Minneapolis St. Paul North Classic. The Huskies shot 62 percent through the first 30 minutes of play, and finished the game with a 38-26 rebounding advantage.

Four Huskies scored in double figures led by Brenna Heise's 20 points. Kelli Guy (18 points), Danielle Blake (16) and Kylie Moxley (13) joined her. Blake added a game-high nine rebounds plus five assists, four steals and three blocks.

Tech (2-0) never trailed in the game, although the Golden Eagles (2-1) were within 13-12 midway through the first quarter. The Huskies finished the period on a 9-3 run.

Heise closed the second quarter with six straight points to send the Huskies into halftime up 47-36.

The Black and Gold really caught fire offensively with 29 points in the final eight minutes of the third quarter to blow the game open. 

"It was a great win for us," said Tech coach Kim Cameron. "That team is going to win a lot of games. Our shooting kept us ahead in the first half, and we put both ends of the floor—offense and defense—together in the second half."

Final shooting percentages were 54 for Tech and 42 for UMC. The Huskies' defense blocked eight shots and came up with eight steals.

Michigan Tech (2-0) will finish out play at the Radisson Hotel Minneapolis St. Paul North Classic tomorrow (Nov. 21) when it faces host Concordia-St. Paul. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Notes: Tonight's game was the first-ever women's basketball contest between Michigan Tech and Minnesota Crookston … Morgan Anderson, who was the only starter not in double figures in points, posted a career-high seven assists … Tech had 27 assists on 36 made field goals.
