Tech hosts NCAA Central Region Championships

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech is hosting the 2021 NCAA Nordic Skiing Central Regional Championships this weekend at the Tech Trails. The Huskies will race in the classic interval on Saturday and the freestyle interval on Sunday.

"It's awesome to bring the Central Regional Championships back to Michigan Tech to finish the season and career for a lot of our seniors," Tech coach Tom Monahan Smith said. "We have eight seniors graduating this year, and there's no better way to finish their careers than at home and especially in a championship event.

"We do believe in a home course advantage. Everyone has an equal opportunity to win on a race day no matter what team you're from, but tactically we know how to ski this course with us training on it every day. That's a level of confidence we'll be carrying into this event, and I think it will be a contributing factor to everyone, including our seniors, having their strongest results of the season."
