Irwin Wins 55K Classic Race at Birkie

CABLE, Wis. — Former Michigan Tech three-sport athlete Deedra Irwin (Pulaski, Wis.) won the American Birkebeiner 55K classic race on Feb. 20 in her first attempt at the race. Her time of 3:11:58.8 was more than 10 minutes ahead of the runner-up.

Irwin, who now skis for Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation Gold Team out of Ketchum, Idaho, competed in cross country, Nordic skiing and track & field for the Huskies between 2011-15.

The 55K classic was not Irwin's only win on the week. She also won the Birke Elite Sprints over 10 competitors representing Olympic development teams.
