Skiers Finish CCSA Invite

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech wrapped up hosting the Central Collegiate Ski Association Invitational with its women's team finishing second of six teams and its men's team third of five.

Andrea Lee skied the women's 15-kilometer course in 51:08.4 for fourth place. She was just three tenths of a second behind third. Sonja Hedblom also picked up a top-10 result with a time of 54:21 for ninth place. Carolyn Lucca was 10 seconds back and finished in 12th.

The men's team struggled with waxing today with temperatures rising and falling around 32 degrees. Gaspard Cuenot, who was the Huskies' top finisher in the previous three races, suffered a crash and did not finish. Kyle Hanson was Tech's top finisher in 12th place on the 20K course. He skied a time of 1:01:27. Thomas Kendrick was 13th in 1:02:25. Seth Mares had a personal best result at 15th in 1:02:38.

"Our women raced even a step better than yesterday, and I really like the way they are trending right now," said Tech coach Joe Haggenmiller. "The men's race was really a challenge with the conditions, and most of our team struggled with their skis. The bigger issue might be Gaspard. We hope his injuries aren't severe."

Michigan Tech will have next week off before traveling to the Twin Cities for the Wirth Super Tour event Feb. 13-14.
