Skiers Host Day Two of UP Duals

Sunday's Classic Results: Men | Women

HOUGHTON, Mich. — Michigan Tech hosted day two of the UP Duals at the Nordic Training Center today. The Huskies had seven men and nine women take part in the classic races.

The men were led by Kyle Hanson's seventh-place finish. He covered the 15 kilometers in 45:04. David Joda was ninth with a time of 45:58. Sam Holmes and Thomas Kendrick were 11th and 12th just eight seconds apart at 47:28 and 47:36.

Ulrika Axelsson paced the women's team with a 33:26 time over 10 kilometers. She finished in sixth, marking Tech's lone finisher in the top 10. Alice Flanders, who won Friday's freestyle race, turned in a time of 34:55 for 13th place. Carolyn Lucca and Ruth Oppliger were the next two finishers at 36:38 and 36:57, respectively.

"It was our first classic race of the year," said Tech assistant coach Andrew Joda. "The tracks were rock solid, which meant you really had to concentrate on technique while trying to go up hills.

"Our results were okay, but we've got a long way to go as we continue building toward our bigger races later in the season."

Michigan Tech will ski at the Wildcat Open hosted by Northern Michigan next weekend (Dec. 13-14).
