Cross Country Teams Ninth at GLIAC Championships
ASHLAND, Ohio - Marissa Yovetich finished 18th to lead the Michigan
Tech cross country teams at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference Championships Saturday (Oct. 22). She covered
the six-kilometer course in 23:28.
Christina Mishica also posted a top-50 finish
placing 38th in a time of 24:06. Sarah Daniels and Deedra Irwin finished 56th (24:30) and 57th (24:34)
respectively.
Malin Erickson completed the team score for the Huskies with a 74th
place finish (25:19), and Amanda Halonen was one spot back (25:21).
Tina Muir of Ferris State won the race in 21:18.
Tech finished 9th of 13 teams with a score of 220. Grand Valley won
the team competition with a score of 21.
Jani Lane led the men's team with a 50th place finish with a time
of 27:23 over the eight-kilometer course.
Matt Dugan edged out Eric Parsell as the pair
finished 68th (28:16) and 69th (28:18).
Nate Manderfield finished 75th (28:27) and Jonathan Kilpela was 79th (28:41).
Grand Valley won the men's competition (17 points) thanks to a
first place finish by Anthony Witt (25:24). Tech finished ninth of
12 teams with 279 points.
"Our conference is extremely tough, and I was really proud of how
our student-athletes competed today," said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. "Not only did they have to deal
with stiff competition but large quantities of mud on the
course."
Both teams will take a week off before competing at the NCAA
Regionals Nov. 4th in Big Rapids, Mich.
