Women Sixth, Men 21st at Roy Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS - The Michigan Tech women's cross country team finished sixth thanks to all five runners finishing in the top-100 at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday (Sept. 24).

"Our women had a very good race today," said head coach Joe Haggenmiller. "We were only a few points behind a number of nationally ranked teams."

Deedra Irwin was the top finisher for the Huskies thanks to her 12th place finish (22:53) in the six-kilometer race.

Marissa Yovetich finished 22nd (23:26) and Amanda Halonen was 51st (24:00). Sarah Daniels crossed the line in 60th (24:13), and Christina Mishica rounded out the top-five for the Huskies finishing 71st (24:23).

Jani Lane was the lone runner for the men's team to break the top-100. He finished the eight-kilometer course in 26:55.

Matt Dugan finished 104th (27:50) while Eric Parsell was 111th (27:53). Dylan Anderson and Nathan Manderfield finished 114th (27:57) and 115th (27:58) to round out the top-five for the Huskies.

"Our men were pretty out matched," said Haggenmiller. "We are a very young team, and the competition is very tough. We have some work to do, and our best days are ahead of us."

The women finished sixth of 22 teams and the men were 21st of 27 teams.

Both teams will return to action at the Upper Peninsula Championships Oct. 7th.
