Five Michigan Tech tennis players earn Academic All-District honors

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Five Michigan Tech tennis players were selected 2023 CSC Academic All-District last week, including Dominika Bobik, Marina Fernandez, Lauren Opalewski, Neva Manas, and Vitor Jordao.

College Sports Communicators recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes men's and women's tennis honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 1.

Bobik (Wroclaw, Poland) played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Huskies in her senior season and was named All-GLIAC First Team after helping Tech women's tennis to its first NCAA appearance in 16 seasons. Her major is Computer Engineering.

Fernandez (Reus, Spain) held a winning singles record this spring playing between the No. 4 and No. 6 position in the lineup as a junior. Fernandez is majoring in Mechanical Engineering. 

Opalewski (Oxford, Michigan) wrapped up her Michigan Tech career with solid statistics in both singles and doubles. She has previously been recognized All-GLIAC honorable mention (2019-20) and an ITA Scholar Athlete (2020-21). Opalewski worked toward a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Manas (Carmel, Indiana) concluded her senior season playing mostly No. 4 singles. She teamed with Ewa Podulka to go 10-6 in doubles and majored in Mechanical Engineering.

Jordao (Recife, Brazil) recovered from an early season injury, then returned to play No. 1 singles for the Husky men. He also teamed with Nikolai Prosjanykov to go 4-5 at No. 2 doubles and was named All-GLIAC Second Team. Jordao is an Engineering Management student.
