Huskies close spring season with loss to #19 Ferris State

HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech men's tennis ended their season Saturday with a loss to No. 19 Ferris State at Gates Tennis Center 7-0.

The Huskies finished winless in duels this spring, but showed signs of overall improvement from last season with 15 individual victories in singles and 10 in doubles (MTU prevailed in 11 singles and five doubles matches in 2021-22).

Vitor Jordao and Jan Koupil went the distance at No. 1 singles Saturday. Koupil began the match with three straight aces and closed out the first set, but Jordao rallied early in the second with a series of extended rallies and converted a break point for a 2-0 lead.

After closing out the set, Jordao went ahead 3-2 with another break of serve. He then served for the match at 5-4 and earned match point at deuce (deciding point), but failed to convert. Koupil closed out the set and the match 7-5.

Eli Pinnoo also pushed his singles match to a deciding third set supertiebreak at No. 5 but fell 2-6, 6-3, 10-3 to Alessandro Santangelo.

"Our players knew they were up against a tough team today and I was proud we didn't go down without a fight," said head coach Kristin-Yep. "We'll keep working to improve and I'm confident we'll come back stronger next spring."

The Bulldogs (14-3, 6-0) will be the top seed heading into the GLIAC Tournament next week.

Michigan Tech (0-14, 0-6) has not qualified for the postseason since 2015.
