Men's Tennis Picks Up Win at Lake Superior State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — Michigan Tech earned its second men's tennis victory of the season today with a 5-4 triumph at Lake Superior State. The Huskies won two of three doubles matches and split the six singles flights in improving to 2-11 overall and 1-6 in the GLIAC on the season.

LSSU (2-14, 0-7 GLIAC) took the first team point with a 8-2 score at No. 3 doubles. Tech came back with wins at the other two doubles flights. Built Yumuang and Nick Kremkow posted an 8-4 win at No. 1. Moments later, Javier Oliveros and Robin Duhnsen wrapped up an 8-6 win at No. 2.

The Black and Gold carried the momentum into singles, and ended up winning the first three completed matches to sew up the team victory.

Duhnsen posted a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles. Kremkow was a 6-1, 7-6 (4) winner at No. 4 singles. Oliveros polished off the team win with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 1 singles.

The other three singles matches were all close. Yumuang lost by a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 count at No. 3. Illiya Chibirev and Luke Doskey both fell by a break in each set. Chibirev fell 7-5, 7-5, while Doskey was defeated 6-4, 6-4.

"We needed this one," said Tech coach Kevin Kalinec. "Doubles was the key. We played well and really used that momentum in singles.

"I'm not sure we win this match a month ago. It's been a tough year, but I'm proud of the guys for continuing to work hard and improve."

Michigan Tech will wrap up its 2015 season next weekend at Northwood and Wayne State.
