HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech fell 2-0 to St. Thomas on Friday at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The Huskies are now 14-14-6 overall and 11-10-2 in the CCHA and are in fourth place in the standings, heading into the final game of the regular season.

"I didn't feel a lot of life in the building and on the bench. There's a lot of distractions right now and we didn't practice very well this week," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "Both goaltenders played well and they made one shot. They defended well, and we didn't make the goalie move much. We were challenged offensively."

The teams went scoreless for the first 39 minutes before Liam Malmquist broke the ice with a goal from Matthew Gleason and Ethan Gauer.

The Huskies pounded 36 shots on goal and had a pair of power plays in the third period and great possession with the extra attacker late but couldn't find the equalizer.

Matthew Gleason sealed the win with an empty net goal from deep in his defensive zone from Ethan Gauer with seven seconds left.

Chase Pietila and Jack Works each had five shots on goal but goaltender Aaron Trotter stood tall for the shutout. It was the first game this season the Huskies didn't find the back of the net.

Tech was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill and 0-for-3 on the power play.

Blake Pietila made 25 saves for the Huskies.

The Huskies and Tommies will wrap up the regular season at 6:07 p.m. Saturday in their fourth meeting this season. Tech's eight seniors will be honored after Saturday's game as Tyrone Bronte, Arvid Caderoth, Ryland Mosley, Blake Pietila, Jed Pietila, Logan Pietila, Blais Richartz, and Levi Stauber will play their final regular season home game.

Saturday is Vollwerth's Family Day where fans can purchase a four-pack of tickets (2 adult, 2 youth) for $60. The tickets come with 4 Vollwerth hot dogs and 4 sodas.
